Getting Started
Tiller makes it easy to deploy and manage your own AI infrastructure. This guide explains what Tiller is, how it works, and why you might want to use it.
What is Tiller?
Tiller is a managed hosting platform for personal AI agents. Instead of managing servers, Docker containers, DNS, and SSL certificates yourself, Tiller automates the entire deployment process so you can focus on using your AI assistant.
With Tiller, you deploy OpenClaw—a powerful AI agent framework—to a dedicated cloud server with just a few clicks. You get full terminal access, SSH connectivity, and complete control over your AI's configuration and personality.
How Does Tiller Work?
Tiller orchestrates the entire server provisioning and application deployment process:
- Server Provisioning - Creates a VPS on Hetzner Cloud, sets up security hardening, installs Docker, configures Caddy for SSL, and establishes firewall rules
- OpenClaw Installation - Deploys OpenClaw via Docker, configures your AI provider credentials, sets up messaging channels, and starts the gateway service
- Access & Management - Provides a web terminal, SSH access, log viewing, and easy reconfiguration through a user-friendly dashboard
Three Ways to Host
Tiller offers flexibility in how you want to manage your infrastructure:
All-in-One (Recommended)
- €19/mo all-inclusive
- AI keys included via Askonoma
- No API accounts needed
- Managed hosting with full terminal access
Flex (Managed Hosting)
- We handle the hosting from €3/month
- Bring your own Claude/OpenAI API keys
- No need to create a Hetzner account
- Choose from Starter, Builder, or Pro sizes
Bring Your Own Key (BYOK)
- Use your own Hetzner Cloud account
- Pay Hetzner directly for server costs
- Tiller orchestrates everything for free
- Full control and transparency
Learn more about these options in our Choose Your Plan guide.
What You'll Need
To get started with Tiller, you'll need:
- AI Provider API Key (Flex and BYOK only) - An Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI (GPT), or OpenRouter API key. Not needed for All-in-One.
- Hetzner API Token (BYOK only) - If using your own Hetzner account, you'll need an API token with read/write permissions
- SSH Key (Optional) - For direct SSH access to your server from your local machine
Why Use Tiller?
Deploying and managing AI infrastructure can be complex. Tiller simplifies this by:
- Automating Infrastructure - No need to manually configure servers, DNS, SSL certificates, or Docker containers
- Providing Security by Default - SSH hardening, firewall configuration, network hardening, and AppArmor protection built-in
- Offering Full Access - Web terminal, SSH connectivity, and complete customization capabilities
- Supporting Your Privacy - Your API keys stay on your server, never stored by Tiller
- Keeping It Simple - Guided setup wizards make configuration easy for beginners, with CLI options for advanced users
